I Tried It: To Help You Get the Best Sleep Of Your Life, I Tested Two Popular Pillows

From neck relief to breathable comfort, these memory foam pillows offer two very different sleep solutions.

A good night’s sleep is essential for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Quality sleep regulates our emotions, reduces stress, improves focus and memory, and more. As we get older, we realize that investing in sleep quality is also an investment in our long-term health.

For years, I’ve been tossing and turning at night, constantly readjusting my pillow. I often wake up with neck or shoulder pain, depending on my sleeping position. To address this issue, I tested two different memory foam pillows: the Muzsoul Cervical Memory Foam Pillow, which offers orthopedic support specifically for neck pain, and the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow, featuring a luxurious feel, is perfect for restorative sleep.

Here's what you need to know about the Muzsoul Cervical Memory Foam Pillow

This pillow is definitely unique. Once unpacked, you have to let it rest for a few hours so the foam can fully expand.

Made from memory foam, it’s designed for people with stiffness and/or neck pain. It follows the natural curve of the head, neck, and shoulders for superior comfort while sleeping. The cervical vertebrae remain in a straight line, which they don't always do when using a pillow that’s too flat or too high.

It’s marketed as suitable for all sleeping positions, but I’m not convinced when it comes to stomach sleeping. Because the sides are raised, I actually find it uncomfortable in that position. However, it has armrests that support the shoulders when sleeping on your back with arms raised—something that sets it apart from flatter pillows.

My experience testing the Muzsoul Cervical Memory Foam Pillow

The manufacturer suggests a two-week adjustment period, but for me it took even longer. Its unusual shape really requires some getting used to. Since I often fall asleep on my back, it was perfect at the start of the night. But when I rolled onto my side, it was harder to find a comfortable position. Personally, I find it much more comfortable for back sleeping than side sleeping.

Because its contours stabilize the neck and provide good support, it can really help people with neck issues. I don’t think it’s a cure for neck pain, but at least it prevents further discomfort during the night or in the morning.

While browsing reviews, I came across an interesting comment: a buyer uses this pillow as a lower back cushion when working at a desk. They say its shape and material provide effective lumbar support, relieving back tension. That’s actually a great alternative use for this product.

Here's what you need to know about the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow

This one also needs a few hours to take shape.

If you’ve already used a memory foam pillow, this model doesn’t require an adjustment period. Your head sinks into a cloud of comfort from the very first moment.

It’s available in two firmness levels. I chose the “soft” option, though it still has a noticeable firmness. If you sleep on your back or stomach, this option provides plenty of support. If you’re a side sleeper, you’ll need extra support to keep your neck aligned with your spine, so the firm version is recommended (though I personally find firm pillows too hard).

If you often feel too warm while you sleep, you’ll like that its foam is ventilated with up to 1,000 perforations to allow airflow. Plus, its washable Tencel Lyocell cover ensures softness and easy care.

The bio-based memory foam is infused with natural soybean oil, making it a more durable pillow. It’s also made from renewable materials—good for you and the planet.

My experience after testing the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow

This pillow is equally comfortable for back and side sleeping. Unlike a down pillow, it can’t be compressed and shaped to fit your head—memory foam always keeps its original shape. If you’re used to feather or polyester pillows, there may be an adjustment period.

Its breathable design really works. The pillow stays comfortable all night and provides consistent support until morning.

Do I recommend these pillows?

Although it’s fantastic for people with neck pain, after sleeping on the contoured pillow for several nights, I can say it’s not the right one for me. Falling asleep isn’t the problem—it’s waking up in the middle of the night after turning onto my side. The unusual shape always requires a bit of readjustment, which interrupts my sleep.

As for the second memory foam model, I’ll admit I loved it after night one. It’s comfortable both on my back and on my side, it’s breathable, and the firmness is just right for me.

Ultimately, what makes a pillow “perfect” comes down to personal preference. I highly recommend the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow. And if you like your memory foam pillow on the firmer side, you might want to go for the firm version.
