I always have a book on my bedside table, and have since I was a kid. I just love reading. In the last few years, my Kindle Paperwhite has taken centre stage, as it’s great for reading outside, at the beach or by the pool, and travelling. Still, I have a tall stack of physical books I’ve been collecting that I need to get through, and I’ve made it my mission this summer to do just that.
One thing I like about my eReader is that the screen lights up, so I don’t have to lean towards my lamp to read the pages. I knew I needed something for my paperbacks that would provide me with the same comfort while I read in my dark room. After searching for a solution, I came across the Gritin LED Rechargeable Book Light. I added it to my cart, and my nighttime reading hasn’t been the same since.
My Experience Using the Gritin LED Rechargeable Book Light
Let’s start with my unboxing. I ordered the Gritin LED Rechargeable Book Light in pink, since it’s my favourite colour, but I love that there are so many options available, including black and white for those who prefer more neutral tones. It already had a full battery right out of the box, so I was able to use it right away — another plus!
Three buttons on the top of the lamp head can be used to power it on and off, and adjust the lighting temperature and brightness. Temperatures include cool white, warm amber, and a mix of the two. I landed on the mix for a warm light that felt comfortable for reading in the dark at the fullest brightness setting. It also has a memory function, meaning it’ll remember the exact settings you leave it at, so every time you turn it on, it’ll be ready to go. I really love that I can set it and forget it.
The light conveniently attaches to the top of any book. The clip is strong and has a small strip of textured plastic that keeps it firmly in place, so it won’t move while you’re reading. If you don’t clip a large enough section of your book, it can create small tears and bends in your book, which, for me, is the only negative about this product, but if you’re not as precious with your physical books, it’s really not that bad.
Behind the clip are four little squares that show the battery level. When all four are illuminated, the battery is fully charged. I find that a full charge lasts me about a week’s worth of reading every night for an hour or two. Since I like to keep mine quite bright, my battery drains faster, but if you like it dimmer, it would probably last at least twice as long without having to plug it in. When the battery starts to die, the light dims until it goes completely dark, giving you enough warning to plug it in. You’ll never be left in the dark by surprise.
The last thing I want to touch on is the size. It’s compact and lightweight, so it’s easy to pack if I’m bringing a book on an overnight trip or on vacation, and the charging port is USB-C, so I can use my phone charger to give it more juice if I forget the designated charging cable at home.
