I tested the viral Bissell Little Green machine to see if it lives up to the hype.
I don’t know if you think fate is real, dear reader, and I can’t tell you for sure if it is. What I can tell you though, is that the day before I was set to write this review, my emotional support Diet Pepsi exploded all over the unremovable cushions of my sofa during a particularly demanding work-from-couch day.
Whether you want to call it “meant to be” or “bound to happen,” that afternoon-ruining spill was a divine opportunity to see just what the Bissell Little Green ProHeat portable carpet cleaner could do.
The details on the Bissell Little Green ProHeat Cleaner
The Bissell Little Green ProHeat is a compact, portable carpet cleaner that works quickly and easily to spot-clean carpets, upholstery, rugs, vehicle interiors, or any other soft surface where stains happen. It has a 37-ounce water tank (and comes with an 8-ounce trial-size bottle of PRO OXY Spot and Stain formula), designed to maintain its temperature until you’re done cleaning. The hose’s handle has a spray trigger so you can spray, scrub, and suction all at once.
My first impression of the Bissell Little Green ProHeat Cleaner
There was very little setup required out of the box, and I had no trouble removing the clean water tank to fill it up with hot tap water and the included cleaning solution. I appreciated that it was light enough to carry from room to room, and the 15-foot cord gave me lots of room to move. Addressing the aforementioned Diet Pepsi stain only took a couple of minutes, but spraying and scrubbing with the 3-inch stain tool was almost hypnotic, and before I knew it, I had made my way across the whole couch.
As somebody who fosters animals and often has little paws running around, I am vacuuming floors and upholstery at least weekly, and borrow a steam cleaner for a few deep cleans a year. Despite believing that was a fairly hands-on and responsible adult cleaning schedule, watching the grey sludge get sucked in through the nozzle into the dirty water tank was a sobering reminder that life is low-key more disgusting than you may often think. It was very satisfying to see the lived-in-grey of my couch transform back into its formerly lively chambray blue self, even if the reveal shocked me to my core.
Bissell Little Green ProHeat Cleaner Pros
- Effectively spot cleans and dries stains quickly
 - Its compact size and lightweight, straightforward design make it convenient to store and bring out for everyday use
 - The hose, fill compartments and attachments are easy to detach and clean

Bissell Little Green ProHeat Cleaner Cons
- Despite being ‘ProHeat’, the machine doesn’t generate heat or steam, so the cleaning solution will only ever be as hot as your tap water.
 - The suction works well to collect water and some fur and fibres, but the machine isn’t a standalone answer to removing dirt and pet hair. You’ll still need a quick vacuum first for a comprehensive clean.

My final verdict on Bissell Little Green ProHeat Cleaner
My experience echoes the thousands of positive reviews that hail the Bissell Little Green ProHeat as a great addition to your cleaning closet; easy to use, offers impressive results, and it stores away neatly. It’s not going to replace a bigger staple appliance like a vacuum or a steam cleaner if that’s what you’re looking for, but for the price, convenience and cleaning power, it definitely lives up to the hype.
