I’m a constant candle burner. Yes, I know everyone loves those candle lamps that warm wax without tunnelling, but frankly, I love the flicker of a real flame. I’m also the kind of person who appreciates the ritual of lighting a candle and hunkering down for a cozy evening. That ceremony is important to me, and I don’t want to replace it with more tech.

That said, I’m happy to embrace newfangled gadgets that don’t take up much space or cost a lot of money while still making a noticeable difference in my day-to-day life. Case in point: an electric lighter. It’s wildly inexpensive, and it makes my life easier — a win-win.

My review of SUPRUS Electric Arc Lighter

I used to rely exclusively on matches to light my candles, occasionally rifling through my junk drawer for a BIC lighter. But I found both options unreliable and, frankly, a bit wasteful. I hated getting a dud match, and once a candle burned low, it could be difficult to reach the wick with either. That’s exactly why I ordered the SUPRUS Electric Arc Lighter.

Now let’s move on to the important details. A portable and convenient solution for lighting everything from candles to fire pits, this electric lighter doesn’t rely on gas or fuel. Instead, it charges via USB, takes less than an hour to power up fully, and can be used up to 650 times before needing a recharge. Battery indicator lights on the side let you know when you’re running low, so you’re never caught without power.

Both wind- and splashproof, this lighter is a great companion for outdoor use and camping trips. Its flameless plasma technology prevents the electric arc from being blown out, so you can still use it even when the weather isn’t cooperating.

It’s also incredibly lightweight, and its extended length solves the problem I kept running into with matches and conventional lighters. Even when a candle has almost burned down completely, it can still reach the wick with ease.

Designed with safety in mind, it features a security switch and a retractable head to help keep small hands out of harm’s way and reduce the risk of accidents. Of course, you should still keep it out of reach of children and store it safely when it’s not in use, but those extra safeguards offer added peace of mind.

Honestly, there aren’t any real negatives here for me. Since it relies on electricity, you’ll probably want to pack a reliable backup for longer camping trips if that’s your main reason for buying it. Otherwise, I think it ticks all the right boxes.

My verdict: Is the SUPRUS Electric Arc Lighter worth the hype?

As someone who doesn’t love the one-and-done nature of matches and finds traditional lighters a bit annoying, this electric lighter is more than worth the hype in my books. It’s more aesthetic than your average BIC, and I love that you can simply plug it in when it runs out of juice instead of tossing it and buying a new one. Since it’s electric, it works in just about any weather, but I find myself using it at home for candles more than anything. At under $15, I really do think it’s something everyone should have in their home.
