Rolife’s DIY miniature house kits have become a real social media phenomenon over the past few months. Our southern neighbours even have dedicated Rolife stores in several cities.
The kits are primarily composed of small wooden pieces, paper elements, stickers, and miniature pre-made objects.
The goal? To build an entire house or shop from scratch using all of these pieces. It’s almost like assembling a LEGO set…Though I have to admit, it’s quite a bit more challenging.
In this article, I explain how Rolife kits are assembled, highlight their strengths and weaknesses, and share my personal experience after spending several hours assembling two different builds.
How Do You Assemble Rolife Kits?
Each Rolife miniature house kit comes with an instruction manual that guides you through assembling all the pieces.
For this article, I had the chance to test two very different kits: Cathy’s Greenhouse and the Sakura Densya Book Nook. One instruction manual was in full colour (Cathy’s Greenhouse), while the other was only in black and white (the Sakura Densya Book Nook).
I found the black-and-white manual a bit more difficult to follow, as assembling Rolife houses requires a lot of precision. Without colour, you really have to rely on diagrams that show the different sides of each piece, with or without printed details.
Each piece is numbered to help you follow the assembly steps. That said, every wooden and paper piece is extremely delicate and needs to be handled with care.
This is also why Cathy’s Greenhouse kit included a pair of tweezers. I still ended up buying an extra pair to make handling the tiny pieces easier, as many of them are too small to pick up comfortably with your fingers.
I also purchased an extra bottle of glue and some double-sided tape to test what worked best, even though adhesive is already included in the kits.
In the end, I realized I much preferred double-sided tape over glue. The pieces stayed in place better with tape than with glue.

My Verdict on Rolife DIY Miniature House
I absolutely love how both kits turned out, even if the assembly process itself was sometimes challenging.
Between the time invested (three to four days for Cathy’s Greenhouse and two days for the Sakura Densya Book Nook) and the level of precision required, I did have moments where my patience was tested — especially when pieces didn’t go together as planned.
That said, I quickly realized that Rolife kits are ideal for people who are detail-oriented and patient. I completely understand the hype around these miniature houses: once you finish your first kit, it’s hard not to want to start another one.
