I love my big, beautiful yard lined with trees... until fall comes around and the leaves pile up everywhere — and in huge amounts! Every year, I end up spending hours raking them up. This time, I wanted to make my life a little easier by trying out a leaf shredder.

The result? Less hard work, plenty of compost for the garden, and big savings on bags. After a few days of work, my carpet of leaves turned into perfect compost-ready mulch. After some testing, here’s what I thought of this handy device that might just become your best fall ally.

WORX 13 Amp Electric Leaf Mulcher Features

The WORX 13 Amp Electric Leaf Mulcher arrived in a medium-sized box — nothing intimidating at first glance. To my surprise, the machine is fairly heavy but very compact, which makes it easy to store even in a small shed.

Assembly was a breeze; so simple that even my nine-year-old “little engineer” wanted to take charge (and did a great job!). In less than fifteen minutes, the shredder was ready to go and stood proudly in the yard, ready to gobble up the first fallen leaves.

This model runs on electricity, so you’ll need a good outdoor extension cord to move freely around your property. Once plugged in, the WORX 13 Amp Electric Leaf Mulcher does all the work: a sturdy internal line spins at high speed to shred the leaves into fine mulch, perfect for composting.

A handy little detail: inside the box, there’s a support ring to hold the bag securely under the shredder. This simple accessory makes collecting shredded leaves in paper bags much easier, though it can be a bit tricky to set up at first.

The package also includes a few replacement cutting lines, ready to use when the first one wears out (which happens after several uses, especially if your leaves contain small twigs). These parts are also sold separately, helping extend the shredder’s life without any hassle.

Do I recommend it?

Out in the yard, I was impressed by how quickly the WORX 13 Amp Electric Leaf Mulcher worked — but a bit of prep is still needed before getting started. First, gather the leaves with a rake or a lawnmower with a bag, and make sure they’re nice and dry for the best results. Wet leaves tend to stick together and slow down the process.

During my tests, I also tried feeding in some dead perennials and dry stems, but that’s clearly not what this machine is made for — it’s really designed for leaves only.

Once you get the hang of it, though, the shredder does an excellent job. The leaves disappear in no time and turn into fine mulch, perfect for composting or spreading over your garden beds (if you wish).

Out of curiosity, we also tried it without a bag to see the before-and-after difference. In just a few minutes, a huge pile of leaves was reduced to a small mound of light mulch — proof that the 11:1 reduction ratio really holds up!

My final thoughts

After several uses, I can confidently say the WORX 13 Amp Electric Leaf Mulcher is a valuable ally for anyone with a large, tree-filled yard. Compact, easy to assemble, and simple to use, it turns mountains of leaves into light mulch — perfect for compost or garden beds. And if you prefer bagging, you’ll use far fewer bags than before.

Of course, it does require dry leaves and a bit of prep work with a rake or mower, but once that’s done, cleanup becomes much easier.

Here are a few complementary accessories and tools that can make your leaf cleanup even more efficient.
