I am fortunate enough to travel several times a year, and each time I try to find the best way to optimize space in my luggage in order to be efficient in my travels.
For a week-long mother-daughter trip to Paris, where we were going to see our beloved Céline Dion in concert, we opted for carry-on luggage only. It was the perfect opportunity to test a backpack with a vacuum-sealed compartment. Could this model truly allow me to bring my essentials without the hassle of a large suitcase to check?

A medium-sized bag that holds a lot
At first glance, the backpack-suitcase doesn’t look huge.

I also had another carry-on bag for this trip, but I was impressed by the amount of clothing I was able to fit in this backpack. I managed to fit:
- 4 pairs of pants
- 6 t-shirts
- 6 pairs of panties
- 6 pairs of socks
- A light coat
- A pajama
- My 17-inch laptop
- Its charger
- My mouse
- My book

And I admit that I still had a little space left for a few more pieces.

Its numerous pockets and various compartments also allowed me to keep my belongings organized, without having to search everywhere to find what I needed.

Does vacuum compression really make a difference?
Yes, and it’s quite remarkable. The vacuum compartment is integrated into the bag: you put your clothes in, close the waterproof zipper, and then remove the air using the included electric pump. This significantly reduces the bag’s volume, freeing up space for the rest of your belongings. The zipper is particularly sturdy.

However, I had to get used to the pump. Several nozzles are provided, and during my first attempts, I had the impression that the one I was using was not letting any air through.

After adjusting everything and trying a few times, I finally got the compression working. Once I mastered that step, I really saw the benefit of the system.

One important detail to know before buying: the vacuum compartment is not removable from the main backpack. If you prefer to be able to take out the compressible pouch and store it separately, this model does not offer that option.

Easy to carry, but be careful of the weight.
The padded shoulder straps are comfortable and sturdy. This is a definite plus for a backpack. However, it’s important to keep one thing in mind: compression reduces the volume of clothing, not its weight. Since you can pack a lot, you might end up with a bag heavier than you expected.
In the end, I loved travelling with this bag. Despite my initial fumbling with the pump, it allowed me to pack everything I needed for the week, with a little room to spare. It’s so practical that it quickly became my favourite bag for trips. If you’re looking for a way to optimize your space while travelling, I highly recommend it!
What if you prefer a model with wheels?
My mother tried a slightly larger model, which can be carried on the back or pulled along thanks to its wheels and retractable handle.

Unlike mine, its compression bag can be removed from the main compartment, and another handle even allows you to weigh the luggage.

It costs a little more, but its additional options may be worth it if you prefer to avoid carrying all the weight on your shoulders.
Another complementary option
To complete my luggage, I also used vacuum compression bags in my other carry-on bag, a rolling suitcase without an integrated compression compartment.
This is a great solution if you already have a suitcase you love! You can save space for your clothes without having to buy a new suitcase.
