Stay bug bite-free with the help of this handy and affordable jacket.

Who hasn’t cut a hike short, abandoned the garden, or packed up the campfire early because of those relentless bugs? That’s exactly why I decided to try out a hooded anti-mosquito shirt. It’s designed to act as a physical barrier against bites, while still being lightweight and breathable.

Since there’s also a kids’ version, it was the perfect chance to test it out with my son, who not only hates pesky insects but also caught Lyme disease two years ago. Let’s just say he’s extra motivated to stay protected now.

Everyone loves summer, but no one loves mosquitoes, black flies, and all the other tiny critters you run into when the weather warms up.

And now we’ve got ticks to worry about, too. They’re everywhere these days, and they can spread Lyme disease. So yeah, protecting yourself properly when heading outdoors is more important than ever. The deeper you go into the woods, the more bugs you’re likely to encounter—and the more varied (and annoying) they get.

Effective protection

This anti-mosquito shirt is designed to offer full, reliable coverage. The fully zippered hood gives easy access to your face, and you can choose to wear the hood up or down depending on the situation.

It also features adjustable drawstrings at the wrists and waist for a snug, custom fit. You’re really well protected against mosquitoes, gnats, and other tiny bugs—even during long stretches outdoors.

Made from a breathable, durable fabric, this shirt allows for good airflow. That said, my son did find the material a bit rough against bare skin. On the plus side, it’s machine washable and definitely lets you enjoy the outdoors without bites or needing to cover yourself in chemical repellents.

Thinking about trying one out to avoid nasty bites on your hikes, while gardening, or during your next camping trip? Here are a few anti-mosquito essentials that could save you a lot of trouble this summer:
