Blush has become one of my favourite makeup products, so as you can imagine, I’ve grown quite a collection of powders, liquids, and balms, but I’m always on the hunt for new holy grails.

As a millennial, I am very familiar with mousse-textured makeup. Though it hasn’t had a place in my personal collection since my high school experimentation with the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, I was tickled when I saw a new mousse product on the market: the Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse. I knew I had to give it a try to see if I could remember why this type of formulation had such a hold on my teenage makeup routine.

My experience using the Maybelline Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse

I got the Maybelline Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Tint in shade 08 Enchanted Mauve, which is a neutral dark pink. It’s pretty similar in colour to a few of my favourite blushes, namely the Merit Flush Balm Cream Blush in Cheeky, so I knew it would work well on my skin tone.

I love that it comes in a glass container, which makes it feel super luxurious for a makeup product that’s well under $20. The container holds 0.17 ounces of product, which is about half the size of the Merit blush. Since it costs about a quarter of the price, I think it stacks up pretty impressively.

The mousse texture is soft and bouncy, and can be applied with your fingertips. Since I have long nails, I opted to use a blush brush that had been lightly sprayed with a setting spray to ensure a seamless blend on my cheeks. I like using the brush, as I find it easier to control how much blush I’m picking up and applying to my face.

The formula is shockingly lightweight; it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing anything on my cheeks. It’s also very buildable, so I can really customize how bold I want to go with blush. It’s incredibly soft and easy to blend into a concealer or foundation without separating or transferring my base. After a few quick stipples with my brush across my cheeks and nose, I finish the rest of my routine, set it with more setting spray, and go about my day.

To really put it to the test, I wore it on a warm day while attending a bridal shower. Not only did it look good from morning to night, but I knew that it actually stayed in place on my face because I could see pink streaks from it on my makeup wipe when I was washing my face later that night, which I don’t usually see from my other blushes and cheek tints.

Is the Maybelline Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse worth it?
