I Tried Maybelline’s New Lash Sensational Body Mascara On My Chronically Straight Eyelashes — Here’s How It Went

Trying new makeup products is undoubtedly one of my greatest joys in life, but I do love my old and faithful heroes. Something that has remained a constant in my makeup bag throughout the years is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. Of course, I’ve sampled my fair share of formulas outside the Maybelline universe, but for one reason or another, I always found my way back to it.

When I saw that the brand was adding to the Lash Sensational line with a volume-boosting formula, dubbed Lash Sensational Body Mascara, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I have really long lashes, but they’re super straight, and finding a mascara that doesn’t leave them falling flat is next to impossible. Since it promised volume and lift without clumping, I knew I had to put it to the test.

Here are the results.

My experience using the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara

Time for my test! I applied Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara in the morning and went about my day normally. I finally took it off around midnight, and there were no flakes, no smudging under my eyes, or transfer to my eyelids, even after a midday nap. It washed off easily with my regular cleanser without scrubbing or irritating my eyes. I even slept in it one night to really test its no-flaking promise, and it did hold up, which I found super impressive.

I typically go for the darkest shade of black when it comes to mascara, but since the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara promised to be lightweight without getting cakey or flaky, I decided to go for a brown-black shade. My thought was that the dark brown, paired with the light and silky formula, would make this mascara a great option for days when I wanted that “no makeup” makeup look. I was correct!

This formula doesn’t weigh my lashes down as much as other mascaras do. In the best way, it hardly looks like I’m wearing mascara at all, even when I’ve layered it. I’ve also noticed that it dries down a lot faster than the products I’m used to. I love that I don’t have to wait forever and a day to put on a second coat.

The formula is great, but the wand is also a selling feature. I find that it lifts and separates my lashes, giving them a fuller, more voluminous look without caking on product. Compared to the original Lash Sensational Mascara, the wand is much lighter, and the silicone tip is also longer and thicker.

I’ve used it almost every day since I first tried it, and it’s become my go-to mascara for lazy days.

The drawbacks of the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara

For a budget-friendly mascara you can grab at the drugstore, there is not much to complain about. There are really only two things that might count as cons, at least in my opinion.

The first is that if you’re looking for a dramatic or bold lash, this mascara won’t get you there. The formula is very lightweight and doesn’t build up as much as most of the other mascaras I’ve tried. This makes it great for subtle, more natural lash looks, but won’t be a hit with people who prefer full glam.

The other drawback has to do with the silicone wand. It’s great for separating and coating, but the tip is quite large, making it hard to get into the inner corners of my eyes. The good news is that if you do make a mess and smudge your inner corners, it’s easy to clean up without making a bigger mess.

My final thoughts on the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara

Overall, I think the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara is a terrific option for anyone who loves a lightweight, natural makeup look. It doesn’t flake or clump on the lashes or give you pesky raccoon eyes after a long day. This, paired with the affordable price, gets my seal of approval. However, if you’re someone who prefers a more dramatic look or really wants added curl and length from their mascara, this formula probably isn’t the one for you.

What Reviewers Are Saying About Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara has a 4.4-star rating, with many reviewers loving that it separates lashes for a fuller look without getting clumpy or flaking throughout the day. They also value its affordable price point and say that it’s quickly become their top drugstore makeup product.

A few reviewers note that while it does give length and volume, it takes two or three coats to get their ideal look. Some also say the quick-drying formula is effective, but means it won’t last as long in their makeup bags as other mascaras.
